Rocky V'z Feroza

Been thinking of changing my Feroza for late model Rocky ( Australian ) and am wondering about the difference in fuel economy, Better or worse

It's only a few years before I have to retire and I like the idea of a diesal Maybe,

Don't want it to heaverly modified but want to do real low range 4wding.

What do you guys think

Most Rocky owners seem to get between 9.5 and 10.5 litres per 100 KLM with a mixture of city and highway driving.

My Rocky averages 10l/100kms which makes it easy to calculate
how much fuel is left in the tank - exactly.

Great truck - shame about torsion bars up front .

i used to own a rocky 2.8 liter diesel but it uses about the same amount of diesel as my feroza needs gas so id say go for it

I have to agree with the rest. I get about 10L/100km on most drives. This is good enough that a tank will last me 2 weeks.

On a more serious note do the Rockys have the same chassis as the Ferozas? I've also noticed some Rockys with the fibreglass top like the Feroza, but other are all one piece steel?

What sort of power do the various Rocky models output? ( 2l petrol, 2.8l diesel and 2.8l turbo diesel)

Chassis are definetly different. Front of Feroza chassis tapers in, part of the IFS design.

The rear section must be the same as the same long range fuel tank fits both. I thought (some?) Rockys were IFS too? Or am I totally confused?

Late model ones were, you are correct...Don't know if there is a difference between those and the Feroza's.

I think the only real difference is the length of the wheelbase. The Rocky's wheelbase is HUGE compared to the Feroza.

I'm pretty sure it has the same Torsion Bar IFS set-up and leaf rear as Feroza's.

And I always thought they were on the same chassis/ wheelbase as the Feroza! I saw one for sale when I was looking to buy the Feroza which was a late model turbo diesel, but here in Adelaide they're rarer than Ferozas!

Here's some info from Redbook.

Made from '84-'99.

In '84 there were soft top, hard top and wagon versions. The carby 2l four cyl petrol put out a mighty 64kW, the 2.8l diesel an even mightier 54kW. The wheelbase is 2205mm for the hard top/soft top, the wagon wheelbase is 2530mm. (The Feroza is 2175mm)

In '99 there was only the Sportswagon RV diesel turbo for sale (with the long wheelbase). It output 75kW and had electronic injection. It also weighed in at 1721kg!!!

I own a Sportswagon and since August 1993 until end of production
Rocky came with IFS and back coils. Another change was wider track thats where those flares come in.Engine came with rubber timing belt. It came only in one spec and it hasn't changed between those years.
As for the electronic injection - not true.
Rocky has no electronics and that what it makes it such a bullet proof
truck.

Can anyone tell me about the on road performance of the Rocky as compared to a Feroza

Off road I think the Rocky could be equal or better.

2nd question. Has anyone ever seen a Leb riding a motorbike

On road performance is all about power to weight ratios, so I imagine a Feroza would be a lot better on road (70kW & ~1250kg VS 75kW & 1721kg) if they were both driven flat out off the line. However a diesel turbo engine should propel the Rocky very well and have a lot of low down torque, whereas the Feroza would need to be revved more to extract performance and the gears would be needed more.

Take one for a test drive, that's only way to know if you'll like it for sure.
