Has anyone thought about fitting unimog 404s to a GQ patrol

Post by chrismav »

I may be dreaming here but i thought about the cost of fitting twin lockers (3000) plus ratios fitted (coupla thou) plus rockhoppers plus 5 link plus lift etc and still needing to consider GU swap for strength and still only legally being able to run 32-33 inch tyres onroad or

... if at all feasible slapping unimogs under and getting lockers, huge diff clearance, too low gearing and 38" tyres (legally with all the recent crap going on) and wider track and finally an unbreakable setup with portals :P . I've read the rover posts and apparently a huge pinion is the problem for the guys who want to keep there buggies low but half the mavs are driving around on 6" lifts anyway so it should clear?

Again, i'm probably dreaming but seeing these in the trading post for 4500 what do you knowledgeable guys think?

First your Transfer is on the wrong side. And then your Sump is in the way of the pinion. The pinion is around 4" off centre towards the left side.

why not just put the patrol body on the unimog chassis - probably would be easier

why not run nissan centres and build axles to suit. that way the width etc will be spot on too. you would need the 3.9 centres to get the ratio street drivable.

cheers bru
