Suzuki Motor Conversion

Post by wjd85 »

Does anyone have any information on doing a motor conversion to a suzuki with a 2.4 diesel hilux motor. I am interested in the cost and modifications that are needed to do it as well as advantages/disadvantages with having that motor in a zook.

search pirate4x4.com its more common in the US.

Not sure it'll be legal in QLD due to size. But 2lt turbo diesel is possible :D

I check out the site, thanks. Do you think it would be legal with a non-turbo 2.4 diesel

get in touch with the QLD authourities and find out if you can do this mod before you even start otherwise it could cost $$$ and time needlessly.

It is a big (for a Zuk) and heavy engine that will require brake upgrades and maybe even chassis strengthening. There are a huge amount of other bits and pieces that will need to be modfified as well to make it a safe and legal conversion. And seeing as you are in the land of not many mods well…

I am going to look into it when i get closer to doing it. I was just hoping that i can find someone on the site who has do it themselves just to give me a heads up, mainly to see if its worth it performance wise.

sounds like a great idea!
you will need to use the hilux gearbox and transfer case and the extra tourque of the moter and offset rear output of the transfercase will dictate that hilux diffs are the go, the chassis will need to be beefed up so cut the rails off a hilux chassis and weld them to your zook chassis that has had the suzuki ones removed, then replace all the suzuki cross members with hilux ones and paint it toyota chassis black!
you will need hilux tailshafts and you can also use a hilux exhaust straight of the shelf!
fitting the zook body onto your new zook/hilux hibrid chassis will be a major pain so you may find it easier to use a hilux body (you may find the body mounts even line up :D ) you will need to use a hilux radiator, hilux deisel fuel tank, hilux wiring loom and you are all done
engineering a suzuki sierra as modified as this will be an adventure and may prove too expencive, but man what a zook!
Peter.
ps don't forget to place the Suzuki emblem on the hilux grill :)
Cable bracing is the way of the future!

not easily but legally in QLD. Toyota 2ct turbo diesel from hiace or import vans I think.

Needs transfer moved back (new driveshafts), new mounts and custom wiring. Good power and torque though.

I was going to do this before my 1.3efi came up :)
