Ok, not 4wd but plenty of you should be able to help on this one.
My Brothers flat mate found his car was running hot and loosing cooland, but couldn't see a leak, told him to check the oil and he found caramel coulered sludge in it, so.....
Cracked head?
Gasget only
woul;d it be cheaper to get a reco head or an old secon hand engine and drop it straight in???
Thanks
Tiny

Heads on a VN V6 commodore are cast and it is rather unusual to crack a head, chances would be a head gasket.
But I could be wrong

it wont be the head gasket it will be the intake gasket as they give the same symptoms as a head gasket done heaps of them

yeah they are notorious for valley/intake gaskets, not so much for head gaskets. Check if the intake manifold/valley bolts are tight, they have a habbit of coming loose.

Havent stripped a V6, but if its the valley cover, how does that allow coolant into the oil? is there oil galleries in the valley cover? I didnt think there was but maybe wrong?
