TB42 Carby jet constantly blocking

Post by CB0569 »

On my 89 Mav ,it doesnt matter if i`ve been on gas for a while or not.The jet keeps blocking up.it doesnt want to rev or it stalls under load.To rectify this what i have to do is swap plug leads 3 & 4 around on the dissy(a mechanic told me this trick that they used to do on old chev`s),have it backfire thru the carby 2 times, put the leads back and away she goes again for a few days.
I am probably going to take the gas off it shortly as its REALLY gutless on gas.I run it at 16 degrees with the vacuum advance still connected.
When on petrol it does go but on gas it`s S**T.

Hmmm.... the only time I had issues with my car on gas was when the plugs were stuffed... and on a gas car thats one thing that does wear out a hell of a lot quicker.

Odd why a carby jet blockage would impact running on LPG.

I got a 93 Mav and I cant tell the power difference between the 2 fuels. It climbed many many of the biggest dunes in Stockton no problems.

Mind you it drives 25l/100km on petrol.

Im running Nulon Injector cleaner ( it says for carby too on the bottle ) with 35L of fuel and Im running Nulon Total Fuel System Treatment with 20L of fuel and so far I have not been getting the low down fuel cut impluse I was getting before.

I plan to drop the oil shortly after cause I think I over treated the fuel system but its what did it for me.

Yep mine kept doing the same thing. It will be crap in the idle jets. It needs to be cleaned right out. However i also solved the problem by putting a diesel in........

clean

Post by jessie928 »

If you backfire the jets clean, its only common sence that they will block up again with the exact debris that blocked them again in the first place if it wasnt cleaned out...

If your running like a dog on LPG, there is something wrong with the setup/adjustment

take it to a LPG specialst and get them to fix it.

it could be anything from your inline lpg filter, converter, mixer and or ignition components such as plugs, leads, points, cap, rotor.

LPG is not rocket science, it only needs the basics and a strong ignition system to work very well.

instead of ripping the LPG out, ( which wont fix your fuel problem anyway!, flush your fuel system, Start from your tank, lines, filters, carby. ( you could have shit like mud and water in your tank) , then once you have done this take your vehicle to a LPG specialst prefferably with a DYNO and have it tuned correctly. MED in villawood had a dyno and they are LPG specialists.

Cheers,
Jes

I had it to an LPG expert in Newcastle. After adjustments to both the converter and mixer it put out a HUGE 66HP (thats correct 66HP not 66KW) at the rear wheels.
It has new plugs, leads, coil, disy cap & button,Crane cams electronic ign.
The carby has had a carby kit put thru it "by a mechanic".

Now you know why i am at a loss!

What was the power output on petrol? They shouldn't be all that different if the gas is set up right.

So, if they are similar, then your problem is probably not fuel related. Have you checked basic stuff about the motor? Do you get nice big fat blue sparks when you put a sparkplug lead close to ground, or are you getting pissweak yellow sparks? Is compression good? Maybe you have a stuck valve or something. I am not saying this is likely but it's easy to check and doesn't cost a cent.

If the power on petrol was much higher, then your LPG expert didn't set the gas up right after all, or at least failed to find a problem somewhere. It's a sad fact that there are a lot of mechs out there who don't know what they are doing when it gets beyond basic problems. I'm not saying this applies to your guy but you might want to talk to someone else.

The "new plugs, leads, coil, disy cap... etc" sounds a bit like the "replace everything until it starts working okay" approach that a good mechanic wouldn't need to use.

Diagnose this right and you should be able to keep your dual fuel setup (which is a great thing to have) and fix it so it runs well on both fuels.

Hey Chimpboy

I replaced the leads, plugs, etc as it was about time they needed changing anyway. The reason i went electronic ign was the condensor kept playing up on me and she would get no spark or even a faint one.

The petrol was was up over the 125HP mark.

The system i have is a Torquegas. It has a restristor on the carby bolt that joins to the air cleaner. This restrictor is right in line with the holes on the mixer.

First thing I would check is the filter in the gas line, sounds like it is blocked and not allowing it to flow the gas properly stopping the adjustments to be made properly.
When are you coming to tamworth next, I will have a look at it for you if we can organise it.
