Buying a new or near new GU

Post by phippsey »

I'm considering selling the rover and going to the dark side, Datsun. :)

So I'm thinking about a GU 2003 onwards, prob. with the 4.2td manual.

Has anyone had experiance with modifications and warranty work?

Eg 3in suspension lift, 33s, body lift.

Are you talking wagon or coil cab? If it's a cab chassis you can run 36" tyres on a 3" lift. You don't need to do a body lift to fit big rubber on a GU. A 4" lift will let you run 35" tyres on a wagon I believe. Also if it's a wagon it is hard to find a well priced 4.2TD.

3 inch suspension lift is nearly enough to run 35/36's

so if you're keen on 33's.. then ??? maybe 2 inch? but if you want more guard clearance.. .. your call :D

on the other :?: 's not sure...

As far as warranty goes you need to be able to prove that your mods didn't contribute to any claims that you're making. For instance they can't knock you back on stitching coming apart if you have a lift. Insurance on the other hand is a different matter and I'm sure you know about what you can and can't do.

3" lift will be more than enough for 33's

no need to body lift

just spoke to phippsey and people have interpreted this thread a litte wrong....

what hes saying is with milder mods eg a bit of a lift and 33s on a wagon.. what are the ramifications eg any warranty's voided or insurance dramas... on such trucks as a possible sallary sacrifice...

insurance shoudnt be an issue with 33's and 2"lift

warranty well i doubt that would be an issue if bought new and changed the suspension and a shock goes well obiboulsy nissan aint going to help u out.

i have even heard if the shock goes through the shocker tower its not covered by warranty.

... that would be up to Nissan. Standard answer is no, so if you take it you pay, if you say What, they change their minds....

....but then the mods have to have contributed to the failures... EG Rockhoppers in a transfer case failure, or shit like that.. If you put a 20inch lift and 44s on it and the air conditioner pump failed, you would get warranty.

Look at what Rolys truck went through, and it got a new engine on the last day of its complete warranty!
