Have purchased a complete donor vehicle with intent of 1KZTE transplant into 2.8 3L Surf. Will probably stay with the auto box and have the whizz kids adapt ECU and loom.
However, anyone have experience of a mechanical pump on these engines - interested too in the comparision as mechanical has a number of stong points in its favour for a hard-core off-road vehicle.
Other than intercooling, what performance mods would you suggest - with objective of further raising the bar, without undue compromise on reliability and longevity.
Cheers,
Leithfield.

1kzte performance mods

Yes, factory setup with autobox using factory loom and ECU. Will fit big bore mandrel bent exhaust from back of turbo. As for how far do I want to go, that's really dependant on expense vs benefit vs reliability vs longevity.
Was wondering for example if there is a high performance chip available, etc.
Cheers,
Leithfield.

more power
hey leithfield
hows it going
id say stick with the factory computer cont injetctor pump
if your after good fuel economy n power on demand
if you swap out the injector pump ull need to increase fuel delivery witch will cause excessive smoke under low revs with a load
eg 3rd gear around a corner when you should be in 2nd gear or driving up a decent hill in 4th or 5th gear etc
1st - id start with a custom dump pipe of the turbo
2nd - full system 3'' mandrel bent exhaust
3rd - fit air to air intercooler or if rooms tight in the engine bay
water to air intercooler
4th - fit a hi-flow air filter (k&n papper filter with outer wear shock for fine dust) clean both every 2500kms
5th - you could then fit a snorkle for cold air induction + good for water crossings
6th - fit a power chip n increase boost & dyno tune for best fuel economy n performance
later on down the road fit/mod the following parts
remove cylinder head
abrasive flow (port) inlet & exhaust manifolds
abrasive flow compresser housing & turbine housing
match port cyilder head
modify cylinder head to reduce air pockets (cavitation) under acceleration & fit cyilnder head bleed valve
fit modifyed/custom water pump
then re-dyno tune for increased power & boost
as the engine will now run cooler and will last longer
due to reduced thermal damige
hope that helps
cheers
