Turbo goes bang....

Post by RN »

Mates 4500 EFI petrol turbo went Kaboom a few days ago.

Not sure on the circumstances but he blew a hole in the side of the block.

Was towing a heavy load so I am guessing that the motor was under extreme load??? too. Not sure about the amount of boost he was using or the type of petrol.

Sounds very expensive.

Have been told the rods in the 4.5's are not real strong for turbo applications. Better to replace with rods from a 4.2.

Just what I have been told.

But yeah sounds expensive.

You may be absolutely correct on this..but I am not game to tell him at the moment. I have to let him calm down a bit.

I think he will do that and then flog the vehicle off. It has taken a long time to sort out as most turbo GU's are diesel so there weren't many others to learn from.
