cleaning out button dies

i was cutting some stainless(316 i think) with a brand new die(5mm) i had to cut eight threads all about 7mm long. the first three were fine then they deteriorated with the eighth being shit house. first one was 4.9mm major dia and the eighth was 4.2mm dia. i was using air tool oil as the cutting agent. i think the swarth built up and was cutting as well. any good tips to cleaning out these little dies as its no good if i can't. any tech about threading would also be good

Run a steady stream of cutting oil for the complete cut. most likely problem is heat buildup. Also keep iit slow and steady.
Could also try cutting about a third of the thread, back off, cut a third, back off, finish the cut.
A coating of Never seize on the die could help too.

Your die may also be blunt. Stainless steel is one of the most difficult materials to work/machine as it work hardens very quickly.

i like to use a dop of anti seize on anything im taping or cutting with die's...it keeps the swarth out of the fresh threads so there is less impurity's. and do the half turn back a quarter half turn..and so on

just cut, abit of the thread, take the die off,

clean in with AIR, get everything out of it,

but i'm steering to more being blunt,

use a thick cutting fluid, rocol, the reason the cut outs are in the die
are because, when u cut a thread u need some where for the swarf to go,

but the problem might be that is building up and draggin across your new thread,

just remember to keep it clean as.
