i have just blown a transfer case and i am doing a gearbox and transfer swap and while i am in there i am also going to do a clutch swap, i have priced clutch kits and i noticed that an Fj clutch kit compared to a Hj clutch kit is remarkably cheaper,
mine is a Hj 45 and i was wondering is they are interchangable between the 2?
cheers
Dean

they are not interchangeable. the 2H is an 11" clutch, the 2F is a 10". clamping force of the 2H is also greater.
don't muck around trying to get a 'cheap' clutch, get daikin. the stocker spec daikin is more than adequate for most applications however if you are turboing or towing one of their up-spec models will suit better.

it's a H not a 2H (it used to be my car) and the kit is a different list AGAIN...dumbdunce wrote:they are not interchangeable. the 2H is an 11" clutch, the 2F is a 10". clamping force of the 2H is also greater.

the stock clutch has lasted at least 100 000 k's (since we bought the car) and it's only oil that has made it poobah now...

ooh sorry I didn't pay attention to that bit. not sure on the H clutch. throw the motor away and get a 2H in therebad_religion_au wrote:it's a H not a 2H (it used to be my car) and the kit is a different list AGAIN...dumbdunce wrote:they are not interchangeable. the 2H is an 11" clutch, the 2F is a 10". clamping force of the 2H is also greater.

how did it get oily? front gearbox seal blown? could probably resurrect it by soaking it in various solvents then drying it out fully, assuming it's not worn out.

seeing i know as much about this rig as 45punkbus i'll answer. Lol the H motor is oft forgotten, which is a pain to dig up parts sometimes
clutch got oily from blown seals everywhere. rear main leaked, and the front seal on the gearbox
as i said though, it's done at least 100 000k's on the clutch that's in there, might as well replace it while we're in there. just the difference in clutch kit prices is astronomical.
thanks

I managed to revive a basically brand new oil soaked clutch (popped a seal about 30 mins after install) by boiling it up about 20 time in soapy water .. did not seem to suffer adversly from it .. no shudder or slip like I was expecting ..
The water was changed each time .. I think I used a bit of borax or something as well in the last few washes.. to rough up the surface a tiny bit as well as soak up any miniscule amounts of oil left behind ..
