Feroza dead...

Post by Tzi »

After a nice fun day out playing in the mud.. I cleaned the car, and engine bay.
when I got back in.. the charge light and brake light were on.
(word of advice.. dont drive car any further than home when this happens... its hard to run a car on the battery alone when its efi!!!)

anyway... turns out that the alternator is not charging the battery, and something wrong with the brake master cylinder... appears to have a broken float (its floating!!)

(on the plus side.. I have some pretty awesome mud-movies  )

how in the world did this happen, and how the hell do I fix it??

From experience, alternators don't like mud. That is why your altenator is now dead. Regarding the brake master cylinder. Did you knock a wire or something off when you were using the high pressure wash. Check all of your connections on and around the master cylinder. Could be something simple like that.

Just get an exchange altenator. Not that dear.

ok.. sounds cool.
I'll try and find an amphibious alternator when I buy one ;)
does anyone know if they are the same on the applause??
and also.. how in the world do I get to it?? its under the power steering. Do I take that off first, ot remove the sump guard and come up from below?

regarding the brakes... I though it was a wire at first, but the brakes are actually not performing properly... I think something is actually wrong. Might get someone else to look at it.

ok to get to the alt you need to lift the power steer pump out of the way. its not that hard and you dont have to disconnect the hoses. just unscrew the tensioner bolt and remove the pivot bolt and it should just lift out and swing out of the way. than do the same with the alternator, normally the alt gets shit between the rotor and the bushes which stop it charging properly. when the alt does this it will also bring on the barke light with the charge light.

i used to fix mine on the side of tracks all the time and be driving again in about 10-15 mins
