Fuel Tank Removal

When I fill my tank up in my 92 Vogue , there is fuel that leaks down over the rear of it on the drivers side. Apart from a loose hose connection could this be something as simple as an overflow mechanism ? Is the process of removal of the tank to investigate a simple one ? Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Mine did the same, although I have now changed it for a 140 litre.
I am told that there are 4 vents, one in each corner at the top of the tank.
The hoses can come off these vents.
I have not done it myself but I guess dropping the tank is like dropping any other. You can disconnect the fuel lines and pump , from inside the car, through the hole in the floor.
There is a recall on 93 onward tanks in the USA for cracking. apparently this is World wide but Rover australia denies any knowledge. But that does not apply to 92,s, but of course a crack is a possibility that you should be prepared for.

I just replaced the fuel tank in my 86 Rangie recently due to the fact that I put a rock through the side of the tank...Rangie's are not designed from long hours on dirt roads at 100 plus km/h....

Anyway...I too had the fuel smell there for ages...I found a hose lose around the filler neck just behind the guard...

So just check the connections around the filler neck in behind the guard.

I had the same thing on my 91 Disco, it was a crack around the filler neck.
Apparently it was common on the early plastic tanks.

Either way, you're going to have to lower it to have a look, and hopefully it's just breather hoses.
