central locking

central locking
I have 94 Gq td42. After opening doors and leaving for a few mins all doors will automatically lock except drivers door. It will do it intermittantly when driving car as well. I can usually open all the doors with switch on drivers door but an odd time it don`t respond to that. Also there is an odd time it does it and when you try to open the back door with the key it`s as though the motors are holding it locked. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks Brendan
It does have aftermarket alarm although when doors lock by themselves the drivers never locks. Also When opening all doors with drivers door key ie in the master door, the o/side passenger door sometimes doesn`t move all the way up and has to be lifted the last touch to gain entry. Could this have any bearing?
Thanks Alex

If you know where the alarm module is then try to find the central locking interface wires and disconnect them (they're normally blue and green). Then see how your locking behaves.
(BTW I'm assuming it's factory fitted central locking and they've hooked an aftermarket alarm up to it? Otherwise ignore the above!

Why then does the drivers door open and close from the remote aftermarket alarm fob. Have disconnected fuses on alarm unit and central locking is still intermittant. There is a circuit breaker on the truck. It seems like there is a fault in the "brain" somewhere. If one door or mechanism was faulty would this give a similar problem. Any more ideas appreciated.

Factory central locking does not have a door lock actuator in the drivers door. An aftermarket actuator will have been fitted to the drivers door. I have seen these give problems. They are different then the other door actuators as they have switching in them to control the other doors and the alarm system. The control circuit can get confusing very quickly, as they have a polarity change for lock and unlock.
09 Cruiser Tray ARB Bull Bar/side bars, dual batts, 3" Superiour lift, MTZs, other stuff. More to come!!!
90 Sierra Soft top, 3" body 2" spring lift, 31" Claws, 5.14 Calmini, more to do.

It's possible just a slave actuator has been fitted to the driver's door and is controlled via a relay. That's how I interfaced my alarm system to the factory central locking. The factory microswitch in the driver's door does all the rest and electrically I haven't touched the factory central locking loom.
Basically you're going to have to work out what's been fitted with the alarm and how they've interfaced the central locking into the factory setup.

There could be an intermittent short circuit in the armrest switch in the drivers door... this sounds feasible if you have remote central locking but the fault isn't locking the drivers door.
Also I would be checking inside the drivers door... my main actuator in the drivers door (aftermarket unit) has a bolt setup linking it parallel to the factory rod... these bolts do tend to slide up and down the rods when they become loose.
As for the passenger door not unlocking fully this is a common problem with these patrols/mavs, the way the factory lock motors work it halts on high friction points.... simple fix remove the door trim and spray lubricant on all your lock mechanisms and rockers than manipulate the connecting rods.... I did this on mine just the other day, worked well!
