No BFG's or STT's until the end of the year!!!! (33's)

Just been speaking to a tyre dealer re: 33/12.5/15 muddies and he cant get BFG's or STT's until the end of the year

He has MTR's but seen as they are the same price as BFG's and the STT's are $20 cheaper each than the others I'm a little reluctant to go the MTR's

anyone else had problems getting any?
Are MTR's that bad?

mtr's are a great rubber...just easyer to get im asuming

mtr's are a great rubber...just easyer to get im asuming

MT/R's are a pretty good all round tyre. I think you'll find most people haven't had many bad experiences with them. From my experiences, i have seen more sidewall punctures in a BFG than in an MT/R.

In VIC though the BFG's and old STT's would probably be better than the MTR's because of the mud, which I understand you have a lot of.

thats interesting, I pick my BFGs up in few days. 2 containers just came in according to my bloke. Only reason Im going BFG is PRICE, i got a fuckin killer deal. If I could get same price on MTR's I would grab em.

As for the STT's why would they release a tire to the public, then have 0 supply.

what order would you rate the three in? and what sort of money did you manage to score the BFG's for?

I bought a set of five STT's 2 weeks ago, but only 30x9.5. Maybe they are so pop' that they sold out.

Yup, I'd rate the MTR over BFG as an ALL ROUNDER.
Great on road dry and wet, great on sand (Robe and Murray Sunset), great on Rocky Track, and Vicrange, and all round High country, so they work well in all shit. IMHO, there isnt much in the 2, but the BFG did have a bad name in sidewalls when they first updated them to the "KO and KM" series... Havent heard of any failures for yonks now, so maybe they have picked up their game.

Scored the BFG for a real good price

Tirepower Blackburn, Go in and see Michael (bald dude - Great bloke), dont bother calling for cheap prices, prices are better in person.

Havent run the STT but the old STT were SOFT.

Will try 1 more place tomorrow for MTR price, failiing that the containers of BFG landed already and they have been ordered

Cooper Tires in the States haven't started production on certain sizes yet.
Australia is the only country outside of the States that has access to the rolling production on the new STT. This means that we are able to get sizes as they are released in the States. Every other country has to wait until the full range is available.

I am very happy woth the MTRs as an allround tyre, hve not run stts but have rune BFGs and would rate the MTRs over them....have yet to have any real problems even in mud

I would try another tyre dealer, sounds like yours has upset someone or mightn't be paying his bills or has a heap of MTRs to move . . . . .

I had the old type STT in a 33". I was pretty happy with them they last quite a while, so am willing to test the new design out. Actually if they had run out stock in the old design I would buy them also.
Also had old design BFG, never had any blow outs or issues with them either.
Both of these where very predictable in the wet/dry and dirt/mud.

MT/R's, well I have them now in a 35x12.50R15. They are good off-road and on dirt. Even dry on-road they are good. But in the wet I havent been totally impressed with them. They tend to break away easier. This could just be that they are a bigger tyre than the others though.

I've just had two blow outs with the old style STT's. One not too bad and the other a major.
First one just north of Innamincka and the other on the inside track south of Birdsville. The local bloke at Copley said he had seen 5 STT's let go in the past 4-5 months.
Both my STT's were new, been on the truck since Easter with about 4,000k's on em.

Mine where old, I brought them 2nd hand off ARB southern (Dandenonge).
Then I did heaps of miles on them.
On the way home, from a trip to Broken Hill, Innaminka, Birdsville, peopples corner and the Fliders. I was driving on the wear indicaters. So they wear very bald and I have had no problem other than tearing some of the lugs off (it still held air though).

mtr's are a great rubber...just easyer to get im asuming
MT/R's are a pretty good all round tyre. I think you'll find most people haven't had many bad experiences with them. From my experiences, i have seen more sidewall punctures in a BFG than in an MT/R.

The maths of that plays out a bit differently

the BFGs have a 2 x 1000 Denier side wall vs the 3 x 1500 denier sidewall of the MTRs (from memory)

well i just got a set of cooper stt's fitted to my pootrol from Ryano the rubber god and i went wheelin the other weekend and i drove everywhere that my 34 jts used to at 15psi and i didnt even let the stt's down at all...still had 38 psi in them....and on top of that they handle good on the road and i dont have to fark around and change tyres anymore as well...

for ryano and fourbys......

now about those irocs???????????????????????????????????

I've got the new STTs in 33" but I had to pre-order them as Cooper have been bringing small numbers into the country. Contact a tyre dealer and ask to put some on back order that way you'll get first dibs when a batch come into the country.

Great tyres, very happy with them.

those claws you put on chris's 80 (bought 90-95%) he wants to trade in on the new coopers muddies for hiway traveling reasons, of the same size 305/75/16 or is there a size in between the 315's as doesnt want that big again..........
