during a gearbox swap, the gearbox fell from the jack (no biggy it was cactus) but it chipped a piece roughly the size of a 20c piece out of the bellhousing, down the bottom away from all the reinforced bits that teh gearbox mounts to.
if i reuse this bellhousing am i asking for trouble? or is it just another area for dust and mud to get in

I would try to get a replacement which should be pretty cheap if it's stock, as suggested by Ludacris. They would be a kind of excess item since they are unlikely to break as often as motors and gearboxes so they shouldn't cost much.
On the other hand, if it turns out to be really expensive, I would patch the hole (properly) and not worry about it, personally.

This is not legal advice.
If it's an aluminium casting and you can get it Carrum Downs, I can probably Tig weld repair it for you.

its off A Hj45, with a H motor. don't know if the bellhousing for a petrol would work, got a petrol one for free today from a guy that parts out a few rigs, it looks heaps different, gearbox bolt pattern is the same, but it's heaps thicker (as in could take a thicker flywheel etc)
