22R Head Question

Post by Brad »

I have a 22R engine in my Hilux which has had 1/2 the exhaust manifold studs pulled out of the head. The PO had put in a heap of exhaust sealant but it has finally given way.

Anyone know what options I have or how close the water jackets are to the studs if I helicoil or oversize them ??

As of next weekend, I should have a spare 22R head if you're interested. Fair bit of stuffing around compared to just retapping or helicoiling the holes though.

I have used dyna botlts with vrying degrees of success.....seriously!!

But I have also double helicoiled. Just get the size you want and the next size up, and go to town. I beleive those guys have alloy heads and that fault is quite easy to do (common) a guy i knew pulled the whole lot, helicoiled them all when he had the 5hits and hasnt had a worry since. (Its not a nice job though) :(

Thnaks, let me know when it is availible and the cost

I am happy to helicoil it just that to use them you need to know how close teh jackets are, but if you have done it before then that sort of answers my question. I have considered dyna bolts and another couple of solutions best left unsaid, If it gets to hard I will give em a go for sure.

I will put is some helicoils and see how I go.
