Diff Housing Material

Post by JoeT »

I have a 1995 TDI Discovery I have a small crack in the housing, the diff centre has been removed. I have rung a couple of mobile welders but as they have not welded a diff have asked what material it is made of.

I have contacted landrover dealers and they can't help. I am located in Sydney can anyone recommend a mobile welder and what is the diff material ?

Regards,
Joe

The housing is easy to weld - no ida what grade steel but it welds easily without pre or post heat. A mig with mild steel wire and argoshield 50 will probably work best, but a stick with general purpose rods is fine also.

since you will have the welder out, beef it up so it dosn't happen again.
