where to get moulded carpet from ?

Hey,

Wondering where to get moulded carpet from in Sydney ?

My Hilux LN106 has no vinyl and no carpet in it at the moment. THink I had better put some carpet in it for blue slip...

Also how much are they roughly ? It is a single cab...

Is the underlay necessary ?

I fitted a set to my Galant (a few years back now...)

Went in pretty easy - worst part was stripping enough of the interior in the first place.

Not a perfect fit - a few creases left around the footwells. The final details were a little fiddly - like accelerator pedal, and trimming at the door sills.

But much easier than re-trimming an LJ Torana from a roll of carpet.

Allow enough time and alcohol and it'll be a breeze.

I fitted a moulded carpet set (two piece-front and back) into a 1982 dual cab hilux - cost $190 from memory - didn't fit lika glove, few high spots around the tranny tunnel, but i packed some of those bits with more underlay - all good. Edge trimming gets fiddly, but definitely much better finish and easier than using a roll of carpet.
Don't forget seatbelt mount holes, seat mounts (depending on what setup you have) centre console mounts, other stuff which you forget about until it's almost fully together and you can't remember where the hole is.... most you can poke through from underneath.

Not overly hard, aslong as you have tools to remove the parts required from your interior and a sharp knife, it's faily simple. Knife wise, those small knives with the slide out snap off blades are easier to use then something like a Stanley knife.

Also bolt everything over the top of the carpet like seat mounts, seat belts etc, you see a lot of people cut slots and flaps and have things go through the carpet to hide the bolt heads, but it doesn't hold the carpet down to well, it moves and tears it where the slots are and ends up a mess.

A Hair Dryer or Hot Air Gun helps fit a carpet aswell, heat up the back of the carpet and you can remould any imperfections out of the carpet, just don't burn or melt it. The worst fitting carpet i have ever fitted was an XA Falcon Carpet into a Nissan Navara, and when finished you couldn't tell that it was the wrong moulded carpet to start with.

Yep - heat helps - the carpet bloke recommended to put it out in the sun for a few hours before you fit it - but hair dryer or hot air gun will work great.

i Have done a few re carpet jobs, I find knox to be far better than true fit . + Tru fit's service is non existent these days
