Driveshaft Extension
What is the easiest way to extend a driveshaft. My front diff is going forward 2" but I will probably go dual transfers fairly soon which will require lots of driveshaft mods. So I'm looking for a fix until then. Would a spacer be the cheapest?

i wonder if all people are actually as good in the real world as they think they are here in cyberland......one of lifes mysteries i spose....
Does the tube need to be anything special? If I find any mild steel tube/pipe, seamwelded etc the right it will be ok for strength? Or do I need to do as paz says and search for driveshaft tube?

If you cut the shaft off about 2 inches from the end you will find a section of pipe that is a real tight fit over the top of the left over section of tube and then there is less chance of it being out of wack.I cant remember the exact size of the tube but it is what i did with my rear shaft and it has no vibes even at 100 and has never been balanced. We just taked it together then bolted it in and spun it over in the car tapping the ends till it ran true and then pulled it back out and welded it up. The wall thickness i think is about 3mm.
What's the wall thickness of the standard shaft? Weldable with a stick welder or is it mig territory? I suppose I could use this method to plate/reinforce the original shafts?

If your going to extend your shaft why not make it a long travel one as well
I was shown a neat shaft in the weekend that had long splines which were actually PTO splines from a tractor !!! the spline was an exact copy of the standard toyota one. You can buy the pto spline in male/female lenghts to suit your app !!

Sounds very cool. Will have to make some enquiries!

Suprasurf,
when you say PTO, do you mean power take off as used in winch terms?
