Cheap winches - any good?

Post by igould »

There is a website selling 12000lb electric winches out of Melbourne.
http://www.thiswotidonow.com/

Apparently they will be on special in 6 weeks time for $799.

Anyone know if they are any good?

I don't know but woud you trust someone who sells glow sticks, winches, tents and don't forget the wooden boats. I can't imagine that quality is going to be too high, although the wooden ships look to be well made and you could maybe use the glow sticks as rock lights.

Seriously though I would be pretty sceptical of any 12000lb winch that was $799 brand new. I certainly wouldn't want to rely on it in a life or death situation. Pay cheap pay twice

Looking a bit closer at the photos, the warning label on it has a distinctive "Made in China" look about it.

You can pick up a 10,000lb warn for $1000 if you keep your eyes open in the for sale section here, trading post or even eBay. If you're going to need something you depend on, get something thats well known, has been around for donkey's years, and is proven. I know a few old cockies that have warn's that are 20+ years old, neglected from new, and still pull an old truck out of trouble. I reckon a chinese one would be lucky to last 10 years tops.
