A trailer will only restrict you on the more difficult terrain. If your vehicle is well setup it'll be able to drag the trailer most places.
And get used to using the 'big rig' driving technique(swing wide!!) otherwise on tight tracks you'll be clearing a lot of scrub!
Luv the sound of a diesel,
especially a Chev 6.2!

yep they apparantly sucked going down hills. Jack knifing sort of stuff.
Various armies evaluated them, (the trailers) but i dont think many took them on. I still want one though.

My wrangler is almost unboggable on the beach but when i have a trailor in tow it dramatically affects the jeep's weight distribution and i usually get bogged on beach entries/cuttings unless i air down or go too slow. Without the trailor i can drive over the same patch of sand with 34psi and i can stop and start easily, but add a trailor and it all changes.

it also really affects how you can go BACKWARDS down hills corners etc when you have to retreat...

yes it affects where you can go, depending on WHERE your going.

In the sand - wheel size makes a big difference too

my mates boat trailer had 13" wheels and was like a bloody anchor

we fitted 15s with some old 31r10.5s and now even his defender can tow it down the beach in the summer

A couple of things, If your building/buying a trailer, try to get one that has the same track as the tow vehicle. Second, modify the jockey wheel by adding at least one inflatable tyre to it. I have two, side by side. This way, if forward motion stops, you can disconnect, drive out, then either winch or snatch the trailer out. With dual inflatable jockey wheel, my camper will roll along sand pretty easily.

Following on from the jockey wheel idea, you can also mount your spare wheel on a swing down hub/stub axle assembley. The whole trailer becomes a big tricycle that you can tow out of a bog once the car is retrieved. Robs you of some ramp over angle where it hangs off the drawbar though.

Fully agree with matching wheel track of tow vehicle as already said.

I agree with what everyone above has said but to add to it, IMHO the distribution of weight between your trailer and fourby makes a very big difference, for example I've seen a bloke trying to get up a fairly steep slope with a trailer on fairly dry track, he had about a 60ltr water tank at the very back of the trailer and it was loaded with all their gear, it seemed to be lifting the arse of the fourby up a bit and he was losing traction very easily. Not taking anything away from him cos it was set up for a purpose, but he struggled to winch up the hill with a double line pull, we drove it without a slip and our cars very loaded to the nuts. Personally I wouldn't bother with a trailer unless you've got a herd of kids travelling with you or oyu're going for a long period.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info guys,

The addition of new family members has chewed up too much space!

CT: have you got any pics of the spare wheel swing down setup?

cheers

Sorry, No pics. Dont have the boat any more.

This was discussed in depth on one of the fishing forums (a WA one I think) complete with pics, so that might be a bit more help.

Cheers
