Sierras do not go through speedo cables any more than other trucks. It is a little difficult to replace them but loosening the heater from the firewall will enable you to remove the old one and replace it with the new. Just requires a little patience is all. And who wants to drive a Zook that is not working properly anyway!
Happiness is life in low range!
I replaced the one on the wifes zook and after a couple of hours of swearing I realised that if it was this hard to do it would be a pain in the arse next time a rock /tree hit it.Pat Murray wrote:Sierras do not go through speedo cables any more than other trucks. So I gave the old one the snip and routed the new one though an easier part of the dash . And I chopped a little chunk out of the bottom of the cluster so you can pull it out over the little switch on the steering column.
Much easier to do next time now 10min job max.

after driving by RPM for the past 3 years, a few months ago i pulled mine out of the cluster to adjust the speedo (that little arm that you can slide up to modify it)... its now accurate up to about 50km/hr and then at 100km/hr its 10% out (110)...
Getting the cable back into the cluster was PAINFULL!!! i ended up having my arm jammed between the cluster and the dash, crushing my wrist to make it reach, plugged it in and then while keeping the full force on the cluster (and my wrist) i kind of tore my hand outa there (left a heap of red marks on me that took a few hours to go away, and a few grazes!) - but it works! haha
I feel sorry for the poor bugger who has to do it when i get my speedo calibrated after ive put the 31's on... (part of engineering requirements).
