little help from the gurus please?

Post by SASS »

OK Im fitting a 7mge from a supra to my 1989 rn105 dualcab lux.
the question is what is the (queensland) dot ruleing on fitting an older motor into a newer car? i dont know the exact year my motor was made (jap inport) but the engine run went from 1986 through to 1992.
Am i true in thinking in that no matter the age of the motor in the run as long as i use all the emmitions gear from a later model i should be fine?
any help will be greatly welcomed.
Cheers

If the engine is older than the truck they wont allow it unless you get an emmissions test done. Dont quote me on that but.

i was looking at a mq shorty86 with hemi 6 and i said how did you get the rego it runs lpg only no fuel tank . The lpg has better ems. so they pass it without needing a test. This was a couple off years ago so ring them if you want to go that way.

7MGE engine out of the supras are known pains in the arse.

If you havn't already got the engine look into the later 1jz (2.5L Twin Turbo) engine ;)

Or if you have abit more dollars look at the even later 2jz :D

id love a 2jzge but have never seen one done?
the 7mge seems straight forward and there is alot of info on the net, and it bolts straight in!!!!!

After talking to others on another forum (toymods) the opinion is that you can not tell the age of a 7mge from the engine number. So if we cant tell the age of an import motor how can DOT?

If anyone has info on a 2jzge into a 4X4 lux please send me a link.
I've found sites with 2js into 2wd lux's but that dont help me much.

technically it needs to be on gas if it is older. newer emmissions gear means nothing as it has not been tested to australian stds on that exact motor, so you will need an emissions test.

that said i will be very very suprised if they pick you up on it, keep your mouth shut and if they ask just say the you can't tell the age so it could be a newer one.

i fitted a chev lt1 to my bundera. the motor was passed. the chev's are impossible to tell the age of as the numbers are machined off and new ones stamped when they are imported to aust.

cheers bru
