Hey All

When driving my car at speeds it runs hot but as soon as i start slowing down or completely stop it drops back to a reasonable temp. What is the go??? any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Mine does the exact opposite!

Check your radiator for a buildup of muck inside and check your cooling system for flow.

At a guess, a blocked radiator core. It is able to cope with the thermal loads at idle, but when the themal load gets too much from higher revs + loads, the radiator doesn't have enough capacity to get rid of the heat.

Try backflushing the radiator (and the engine block while you have everything apart), the core and block are probably full of sludge, easiest initial step to do (not the clenest, though :? .

Next step would be to look at the water pump.

Yours is an airflow problem with the radiator. Full of mud/lots of folded fins showing? Possibly a dud viscous coupling to the fan if you have one.

I had a similar experience recently as well, fine at idle but would get warm under load or sitting on high speeds. Turns out my radiator was 50% blocked, got it all flushed now is sweet!

check the lower radiator hose has a spring in it . The lower hose can colapse at higher rpm without it restricting water flow.

I explained that very badly. Mine doesnt overheat, it runs cold and the faster I go the colder it runs. When buying a radiator cap recently, I discovered it has a new radiator out of a 93 model which has a larger capacity than the original for the 91 model.

With a new thermostat, new radiator cap and new glycol its running well, if somewhat cold on occasions. Better than way than the other, I say!
