Tail shaft balancing

Post by Rough60 »

Hi all,
I still have the vibration that sounds like its coming from the back of the gearbox, checked uni joints, all bolts etc, free play feels normal compared to a mates whose doesn't virbrate over 80 when cruising (not on throttle and not off) like mine does. So I was thinking the tail shaft may be bent or out of balance. Just wondering how to check and rebalance, or is this job best left to the pro's. If so, any recommendations in the Hornsby area would be appreciated.
Cheers.

can you see any damage to the tube to check jack the rear up and support the diff properly.Hop in and put in d or in 4th and have a look if it out you will see it.If it is you have to get it done they will use a balancer and oxy to pull back the tube if it isnt to much.

Yes, definately NOT a job to try in the back shed. If you think its a tailshaft problem, just whip it out (10min) and run it down to an automotive engineer. I've got to do the same to my front drive shaft too.
