I am thinking of lifting the rear end of my triton a few inches am wondering what the best method of doing this is ... reset the springs or extended shackles. I want to keep the rear end failry soft.

I not sure if my train of thought is corret here but here goes anyway
If you are after a soft ride go with the shackles.
Raising the body on the springs (extending shackles) gives the body more leverage on the springs due the higher center of gravity.
Thus the net result would be a lift with slightly softer springs

you could always look into doing a spring over conversion, thus retaining your stock springs as they are right now and not changing the ride much at all
shackles make the springs work in a slightly different way to what they were designed and on some cars can be rather poor solution
if it were me id buy lifted springs or do the spring over
resets are only slightly cheaper than new springs and i have never seen one not sag

After a bit of research the springs seem to be the better deal. Main reason is that I can go 50mm wihtout requiring an engineer to look over it. All other options would mean I'd handing the engineer wallet full of cash just to stay legal (in the ACT anyway)
i've heard that tough dog have 40mm "comfort ride" leafs for the triton so they might be the go.

The Mitsubishi IFS is one of the best in the market, with long control arms and driveshafts (so I've been told.) This allows them to run lifts which would have other IFS vehicles (like Isuzu/Toyota ) in trouble; so some of the less educated 4x4 places are selling the Mitsi short - again.
The ARB store I use was quite happy to crank mine almost to the bump stops - without being asked. But I'm not complaining.

ie new torsion bars for the front and shocks (does it have shocks in th efront?)
and longer shackles for the back?
i would like to run 33's or 32's and was hoping to do a 2inch body lift as well
just have to wait till the WA rego runs out as the car is now in QLD and i cant get the body lift accredited in WA!
is it expensive to do? the springs and shackles etc? to get the 50mm
as if i can get the 2 inches with no body lift then that would be better?
