Roof off the middy

Anyone got some pics of a middy with the top off?. Do they take long to get on and off?. What were they thinking with the full leangth rear doors? any solutions?

There are a couple of pics here. I believe Jake (Muss) also had his off when doing some mods to the roof to make it "MQ Patrol and Bronco style" removable so he may have some photos. Dunno how you'd go with rubbers etc. resealing it putting it back on. These guys may be able to answer.

There are about 4 or 5 bolts either side at the back. 2 brackets in the back corners. about 4 bolts in the panel with the interior light in it and about 4 or 5 bolts in the top of the windscreen surround. and a bolt either side on the outside under the badge at the front of the frp top.

Toyota makes rear doors that have removable glass. But I agree, full rear doors on an FRP top doesn't make sense.turbo4t wrote:What were they thinking with the full leangth rear doors? any solutions?

there are 20 bolts all up and about 20mins to get off and don't forget the bolts behind the little badge on the side (it just pops off )

Canvas top Bunderas should have them, but they are rare, aren't they?

yeah thats pretty much spot on trusa un fortunatly i cant find the pics think i might have to take some more o bourght another frp top and have since made it into a ute style top just trying to come up with ideas to keep it secure and water tight as i dont want to remove my rear drawers i also want to fab up some ute style roll bars as the genuine ones dont look the part on the uted conversion...Trusa wrote:There are a couple of pics here. things you might not know bout this conversion... the bundera rear doors are exactly the same as the middys...
the soft top bundera sold roof cross member fits the middy exactly too ( for all you blokes that want a sorft top middy)

the bundera half doors tops are to small with the roof back on.. and jake you only realy need the rear roll bars if you have rear seats which you dont

It is my 88 model RJ70 bundera with an FRP top cut down to fit,
and apart from the roof and the 35" BFG muds on 10" alloy wheels and the diff gears, it is stock as a rock and very reliable

The Bundera is only those vehicles with VIN starting with RJ70 and LJ70, both were available in hard and soft tops
RJ70 2.4 22R petrol with G52 5 speed and 4.556:1 diffs coil sprung
LJ70 2.4 2LTE diesel with R150 5 speed and 4.875:1 diffs coil sprung
The MWB series are those vehicles with VIN starting with BJ/FJ73 and BJ/FJ74. These came standard with removeable FRP top only (ie no genuine hard or soft tops)
FJ73 3F petrol 5 speed R series and 4.11:1 diffs Leaf sprung
BJ73 3B diesel 5 Speed H series and 4.11:1 diffs Leaf sprung
The 74 series were not originally sold in Australia however a number of them are now starting to appear as imports
Other 70 series cruisers were available such as the BJ/FJ/PZJ/FZJ70 that were indeed a short version of the MWB. These are tough SWB landcruisers with full landcruiser drivetrain and leaf srpung suspension. They also share the same appearance with none of the front panels being changed as was the case with the bundera
