Is it worth building up a NT and installing WT diffs to obtain the extra clearance between tyre and spring? Are lux diffs that much better for an everyday and weekend fun driver?

Hilux diffs are stronger, however the diffs are larger meaning that you need to run a larger tyre for better ground clearance.

If you can get some lux diffs go them for sure.

But yes it is worth changing, or just offset your rims.... Or both :twisted:

doesnt a lux diff need a 33" tyre to have the same clearance as zuk diffs on 31's?

might be an issue if legality is in the equation - Western Aust. only allows 6" lift now... which means max 4" lift and 31's.

id rather 1" less diff clearance and the reliablity that the lux diffs have

Haven't got a project car yet. Have had WT before and was just wondering if its worth purchasing a NT and putting WT diffs under it to gain the extra clearance between tyre and spring?

if you had to buy the wide tracks, then it would be just as cheap to get lux diffs, just as much work putting either under your car.

ie change spring perches, on lux and zuk.

redrill pinion flange, unless you put NT centre back in which is 3.9 instead of 3.7 for WT.

you will need new rims with lux. but if you only have stock zuk rims, then you need to upgrade anyway.

advantage of bigger brakes and bigger everything on lux.

very good range of lux ratios. and they are just as cheap as zook stuff.

MQ's are cheap too!

where are you?

I'll have some wt's for sale soon which are all set up to go into nt, all the work is done.

They've got 3.9 centers, completely rebuilt rear brakes and new lockright locker rear 500k's ago :cool:

They'd be a bolt in job :) Just an option for you ;)

im thinkin up a trailered weekend basher zuk and I am interested in this info as well. I am getting through the bible, slowly...

I want to get a running, cheap zuk, and because its not going to be registered i want to get it going as cheap as possible.

To do this, i assume a NT is the cheaper option? then I can throw some hilux diffs under, welded centres, SPOA, track bar (axle wrap prevention), extended shackles, cut guards, body lift, 15" rims + 33s, maybe exo.

I was thinking of going straight to coily but after seeing barathrums zook capability i dont think it will be worth the hassle/money off the bat for a weekend basher.

Have got access to most tools to do most of this myself.

Does this sound like a good setup to start? What is the best bang for buck zook to look for, for something like this? (model, track, engine, wheelbase etc)

EDIT: oh sh1te, totally just hijacked this thread... :oops:

where are you, is legality an issue, how much of a budget do you have, what sort of terrain will you drive, what size tyre are you going to run? A bit more detailed info can mean the difference in an educated answer or a bit of a guess.

Mainly beach and dirt road thrashin as im heading back to SA from Vic, but also like to head to the flinders ranges and a few other harder locker only tracks that I have found over the years. Money isn't really an issue as long as it's not to over the top as i have had a WT before and never had a problem. The weakest link i found was the engine and gearbox mounts I went throungh 2 sets (dune hoping :D ). I do have a 1990 Hilux thats used on the family farm and was thinking of wreaking it for the parts even though they would probably need rebuilding.

i was looking at hilux axles today and they dont have an off-set centre, :? so how would they fit a suzi??? just thought this would have been a prob. i know cruisers have the centres off-set would these be a better option to do a swap with :?:

bundera's have an offset rear, but harder to find than a lux rear

you'll find that a lot of guys here run an offset tcase output to the centred rear lux diff without dramas

i have this seup dont get any vibratins from the shaft

i moved the rear mount on the transfer over 45mm and that helps take the angle out of it

You may then want to check the legality of these sort of conversion before you do them. I believe that these conversions may be difficult to get done legally for SA. Do a search on here and see what you can find but best bet is contact the SA people before you start.
