i may be getting a
Daihatsu

i have a few questions i would like to ask every one in the know
1 is there any common things i should look out for like chassis cracks or any thing like that
2 what are my options suspension wise i was thinking of making some 2inche extended shackles
3 what size tyres could i fit with the shackles
if any one could help me out with general knowledge its would be much appreciated
ill probally get it as its at the right price and lots of spares and i know the
cars history ( familly freind is the owner )
sorry if its a little all over the place
i will try to attach a pic of it
cheers

Frame is basically very strong and heavy for a little vehicle like this, but check the tubular crossmember in front of the rear wheels. This is where the fixed springhangers are mounted to and the can be bent or cracked

You can get away with 2 inch shackles, but the short springs will increase the caster angle quite alot, so expect a different handling (but probably that's nothing to worry about cuz it handles like shiat in stock form). same goes for the rear driveshaft angle

with 2 inch schackles you should have no problems with 30 under it ( 31 with a little rubbing)
hope this'll help a little
Cheers,
Ron

forgive the hatsu newb.
It'll change for sure when he buys the old girl and he puts his zuck in teh forsal section
Now for the tech content in this thread
You'll probably noticed I forgot to mention any body issues. Common rust spots(actually whole body

) are the window frame, the sheetmetal above the dashboard, rear corners, rail under the roof. Don't let this fool you because teh chassis and drivetrain are prolly in good nick

Plenty of knowledge on board here, prolly more tech and manuals than some of the other brand forums...
Looks like an 80's onwards model from the grill/bonnet/front clip, but can't see the fins on the side of the body to be sure of the year.

get it get it get it!!!!!!!!!!!
my F20 was in my family too!
ive put 2inch extended shackles on mine, a 2 inch body lift and 34" LTB swampers without any real probs.
with the extended shackles and a little cutting i recon you could fit in 31" or 32" muddies with possibly a little rubbing........ but that just means you have to cut more away
if you have any q's dont be afraid to ask, and have a good search through the F20 pics sticky topic. ive got some pics up in there about all the stuff ive done.
welcome to daihatsu!

The first thing it touches are the springs on full compression and the framerails, so use the right offset on your rims. That's for 31x10,5, ehen flexing they clear the wheelarches by 1 cm. Go larger you have to cut the wheelarches like chris said . I don't like to cut the sheetmetal but hey that's just personal

were these made by toyota at any point i remember some one saying that
would this explain the engine being title 12R
i know toyota named a few engines similiar the one that comes to mind is the 18R

Yip, Daihatsu made but some where rebadged as Toyota Blizzard to fill a gap in the product line up in the late 70's/early 80's.
The petrol engines are toyota's and bulletproof, but no ponies at all..
The diesel engines are rumored to be close family of the 20/22r series Yota petrol engines, although I can't verify that

yer i just got back from talking to the owner and i can have it for $1700 will have the money on wensday hopefully and pick the car up on wensday
or thursday
i didnt find out what year model but i know its a delux hard top (obviousl by the pics) the paint is pretty rough but it doesnt bother me 2 much
its a 1.6 with an aftermarket carby, 31 all terains that are well over 18 months old and still got plenty of meat left
the only fault is the body is rough and the electronic choke on the carby dont work

i will have to get that one sorted
its mechanically A1
um he took me for a drive goes all right for its age still locks the wheels up when compression braking which i thought was pretty cool
did these things come with a 5 speed cus mine is a 4 speed
im kinda excited had to tell some pplz
and i better introduce my self ill be spending a lot of time in here now

the later models did come with a 5 speed, but they can be pretty hard to come by nowadays. The four speed is not too bad with the 31s, brings the revs down quite a lot. These little 1.6 will rev quite happily at 3800-4000 on the highway with no complaints - did so for years on a set of 215s.
