Hi all, Just a quick question on Feroza hand brake adjustment. I've just stripped down and replaced the rear shoes, the handbrake wasn't much good before i started, now its pretty much useless. I thought the adjusters in the drums were automatic but this doesn't seem to be the case. Does anyone know the correct way to set them up? Do you have to manually turn the adjuster through the slot in the backplate? if so, how much?
Well, as I'm sure you're aware.....the Owners Manual says absolutely NOTHING about adjusting your handbrake
From what I recall....have you tried adjusting the 'thingy' in the drums by removing the small cap and adjusting with a flatheaded screwdriver ??
You know the adjustment spot ....don't you......I'm not too technically minded...BUT
If you have tried that....then have you adjusted the tensioner 'thingy' coming out from the lever (just above the rear tailshaft) ??
Of course...if none of this works....its probably best to go to a 'Brake Joint' to get them to adjust them .....or better still....find somebody that actually knows what they're talking about

I'm no brake expert (especially when it comes to drums) but a joint I used to hang around at a lot used to adjust the drums through the rear slot as already mentioned. They'd do it on the hoist and spin the wheel while doing it until the shoes would just start to drag and then back it off one or two clicks.
As far as the handbrake adjustment goes I haven't had a look at mine, but make sure the shoes are adjusted properly before playing with that.

Guys, rear brakes on the feroza's are crap at the best of time. The adjustment screw seizes up really easy and you cant adjust from the slot in the rear of the drum.
Just about every time I go wheelin I have to pull the rear drums off, do a general clean-up and unseize the adjustment mechanism. Openly adjust the mechanisms so the drum goesback on, put the wheel's on and adjust until the hand brake goes about 3-4 clicks up. May be take about 15 turns/clicks. Make sure the car's on stands. (Thats my safety issue dealt with, now you cant sue me for not telling you!!!!)
As soon as the things gets wet and dirty, the brakes basically stop working.

The F75 Rockys have the automatic adjustment things in the drums too, but mine have never ever worked. The theory is that when enough wear in the shoe allows the small curved adjustment plate to reach the next notch in the adjustment mechanism, the mechanism will wind up a little, hence keeping the adjustment correct. Thats the theory anyhow, practise is a little different. Go the screwdriver through the backing plate routine. However, be careful, as the notches on the adjustment mechanism are tapered one way, and then the automatic adjusters become very efficent, at stopping you from slackening off if you happen to overdo the mechanism.

In the manual (this of course assumes everything is working OK ) it says to adjust the tension so the lock nut is about halfway (where the two cables join together). Then you're supposed to just keep applying / releasing the handbrake until no more clicking from the auto adjusters is heard.
