Lost: First Gear
Lost: First Gear
My first gear from my 2.8 GU has dissappeared, I parked my car at work, then at lunch time went to go out and it wasn't there, gear stick goes into position , just won't click in, try holding there but it just grinds, had made to earlier stops in the morning no trouble. Had clutch replaced about 2000kms ago and is now down at mechanics. Anyone have any ideas.
Re: Lost: First Gear
linkage? could you get any other gear?
Jeez thats a bit of a bullshit excuse as the 2.8 gearbox is nothing special, its just a heavier incarnation of the old VL gearbox. Sounds like they just like the good profit jobs.HARMZ wrote:YEAH ALL OTHER GEARS ARE FINE, MECHANICS SAY SOMETHING INTERNAL, TAKE TO GEARBOX SPECIALIST AS THEY ARE TOO BUSY AND NOT EXPERTS IN LATER MODELS GEARBOXES. ANYONE RECOMMENED SOMEONE ON THE NORTHSIDE OF BRISBANE.
When I was in the trade I wouldnt send a customer away because they would never come back & murphys law if you recommended someone else then something would go wrong & they would think I was a dickhead for recommending the other person in the first place.
What was the topic????
Oh yeah, your gearbox, sounds like the synchro is not slowing the gears enough to select gears or the bushing is worn in the bottom of the gearstick (usually affect all gears though).
Keep us informed.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
No they ain't, I'm just in front...............

The mechanic is the one my family have gone to for years so I trust them, they even did an inspection of the linkages and charged nothing, I think it is more that they busy enough, besides I still have an extended warranty so it is now with Nissan and I can let them sought it out.mkpatrol wrote:Jeez thats a bit of a bullshit excuse as the 2.8 gearbox is nothing special, its just a heavier incarnation of the old VL gearbox. If you put it in first, then try and start the car-what would happen then? Might rule out if it is syncro related or a broken gear on the layshaft etc. I assume all linkages on them are internal-if the stick had a abnormal feel-it could just be one of the 'shear pins' that aligns the rods/forks has sheared.
