Snake Hi Steer Arms

Post by suprasurf »

Had a pair of snake arm floating around the garage for the last few months, so decided to fit them on to see if I could clear the sump etc..

Anyway they fit OK ( as they should ) BUT the tie rod is way above the springs !!! Surely the arms only need to place the tie rod just above the springs, not 40mm above ??

Should I rotate the axle and/or would lifted front hangers help ??

That means I have to lift my motor heaps. Any one got pics of these arms fitted, crossed up etc... might have to bin em - make my own or go back to push / pull :(

When mine is fully crossed up I can make the springs touch the arms, JUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I think that explains them being 40mm above

Before doing the 40mm motor lift they would touch when crossed up or jumped. It was by heaps but enough to fark things if not fixed.

now they don`t touch at all. As for how much they miss by I`m not 100% but i think its around 20 to 30mm.

I think that the sump is going to be the killa, Bugga I don't think I can mod it any more. I'll push it outa garage tomorrow and high lift it to see how close it all gets. More pics to come 2morrow !

Ryan told me that he had. Why not give him a call?

I've also found Chaos 4x4 very helpful too!

no i havent sent them back not untill i get my new set. and the arms u have may have the same prob as mine, the tie rod end taper is toooo deep and wen u put the tie rod ends in it flatens out the rubber boot that much it splits very easily then the ball joint is open 2 water and crap and chews out very fast. i am bout 2 buy my 3rd set since fitting my arms 6 months ago.

Rather than ship arms back and forth, I'll get mine machined down a little on the top flat and use the factory hilux ball joints and tie rod .... sound like a plan ???

Is there a recall? Are there any model numbers cast into them? I thought each one was individually analysed? Before what purchase date were the arms manufactured wrong? Having got one of the first sets... Mine would surely be the older model right? So can I return mine for a new set?

Got my arms just before Xmas and so far havent had any problems with the tierod ends, although I wasn't happy with how the tapers were machined for the cone washers.

i have a set of Sky arms, they are a low clearance short arm and looking at them off the car they look as though they will just clear a 4 leaf pack. They have shit all lift in them so lets hope they work.
