NEED HELP COMMOLUX ENGINE PROBLEMS

Post by STUMPY »

i've got a vn series one engine in my lux and code 22 is coming up on the problem diagnostic light which is the throtle body sensor. also, the car is idling rough and has a knocking sound at idle but doesn't make the noise when driving generally.

what i'm wondering is the knocking and the sensor related?
i thought the sound was top end.

could this noise be a stuffed lifter?

any pointers would be appreciated.

cheers joel

Your tps might have an idle switch that isn't closing, check that.

you obviously haven't seen stumpy tangled around a multimeter :)

stumpy treat it as two separate problems and tackle them one at a time; chase down the efi problem first (as Sam suggested, test the TPS, you may need to pop the cover off it to see which contacts close unde what conditions, and check the wiring at the plug and back to the ECU). if the knock goes away after you fix that then be happy - if it doesn't, then assume it is a mechanical problem, which can gereally be solved by throwing out the junk buick donk and fitting a toyota diesel :D

for the price of a underpowered hunk of toyota iron, you could install atleast 15 buic v6 donks.

Check the adjustment of the trottle butterfly before you replave the TPS. If the throttle butterfly is incorrectly adjusted & the TPS cannot come bcak to the "set" or idle postiion then the computer will think there is a fault & pull up a code plus it will idle like shit.

A bit more info on what you have changed will help but these injection systems are pretty basic & fairly easy to keep running right provided the basics are ok.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
No they ain't, I'm just in front...............
