Rocky Weird Noise

Post by RockyF75 »

I have this noise coming from the back when i am decelerating, using engine braking. At 1st i thought it was the uni's because that is exactly what it sounds like - worn uni's - but mech reckons the uni's are fine :? , i greased all the nipples tonight just to make sure, and it sorta seemed to make it a bit better, but the noise is still there on an off so i am not sure. Is there anything else that makes a similar sound when it goes? Could it be a bearing or sumthing else in gearbox? Or diff  ?? I am scared, hope its only uni's

Bump  .... i took it offroad today, and after playing in the mud and flexing up on wombat holes, the noise has gone... for how long i dunno  . Could mud gettin stuck all over the unis stop em from squeaking/rattling for a bit?? Cuz before when i washed em the sound stopped for a while, then came back. I am still not sure if its the unis or not  Someone said that maybe the water lubricated em for a bit so stopped teh noise temporarily :?

I presume you checked the slip joint? Does it move up/down/sideways at all?

Midway up each driveshaft, one part of the shaft slides in and out the other half. This gives the shaft a variable length.

Anyway, try and and move the joint up/down and left/right. It shouldn't have any movement. If it does, this is like a bad uni. No easy fix for it other than getting it reconditioned ($600?) or scoring a decent one at the wreckers.
