Vitara Grill

Post by LTDHO »

I just distroyed my grill. :(

My question is, will the grill of a 1995 Vitara fit a 1990 model?

Providing it is all 1.6 ie. a EFi model (8/91-97) grille does fit an Carby model (7/88-10/94) and vice versa.

You've lost me on the black middle section but as mentioned there are two different grilles for the 1.6 Vitara ie. SWB Carb and SWB/LWB EFi. Both will fit either model.

The white one is a carby (G16A) model and the red is an EFi model (G16B), so the grille out of the red will fit the white one. It's been done numerous times.

I had the white one on my 1.6 8v EFI modell, destroyed it too, and fitted one like the red one, no problems involved in the process, just getting the old one out, I damaged some clips so now it's resting on my winch bumper only

G'day Ed, just out of curiosity two questions for you:
1. Looking at the picture of your Vit, it looks like you have Owen's Classic flares on the vehicle, is that right?
2. Does your Vit have a 5 or 6 digit km reading on the speedo? In Australia we only got either the G16A 8V carb or G16B 16V EFi engines all with 6 digit km speedos, but I have seen a couple of Vit imports to Australia with G16A 8V EFi engines and the speedo km reading is 5 digits.

Just curious.

1. they are OEM flares on it ;) They were on it when I bought it but are kind of hard to get nowadays.
2. It is indeed a 5 digit km reading, so I have no idea wether it has 60k or 160k or maybe even 260k :). Over here (europe) we had the G16A 8V Carb and Monopoint Injection, and the 1.6 16V Multipoint Injection.
But even over here my car wouldn't exist because it's a JLX and they were originally never delivered to The Netherlands :) So I'm driving a canadian built car sold in Germany and then imported to The Netherlands, I think....

The Owen's Classic flares were made of plastic and came from Finland. What are your flares made of plastic or fibreglass? Does the end of the flare where it meets the sill, replace the short piece of the plastic on the sill or does it just meet up with the short plastic section of sill ie. the sill protector is in three sections and there is a short piece either end of the sill meeting the large section in the middle.

When I saw the G16A 8V EFi imports in Australia, I had exactly the same sentiments how bloody useless to have a 5 digit speedo. As you pointed out how do you know how many km's you've actually done.

The flares replace those small pieces of the sill protector, and they are made of plastic. Don't know where they come from, but there are Suzuki S'ess all over them.
But I don't really care 'bout having only 5 digits, I maintain it frequently enough and the motor is still going strong, if it has to be replaced it has to be replaced no matter how many km's on it ;)
