FIgured i'd let you guys know the latest info
Done deal, I just bolted an NP231 from a 98 TJ to a KM148. Problem is, the long input gear on the 98 touched the Governor in the KM148, which means the med length NP231 shown to be in the 93-95 ZJs and the short input geared NP231's in the 94 and back YJs and XJs will fit perfect. No spline play, bolts up perfect. Sorry I didn't have a camara w/ me.

ok any 23 spline jeep np231 with the med or short length input shaft will work on the km148 auto here in the US this auto was used from 87-93 in 90 they made it a lockup and in 92 in the gen 2 it got a super select transfer case. Ok the fact is now its not just the np231 that will bolt on anything like an atlas that is avalible for these jeep transfer cases will work with a Pajero np231's come stock with 2.72:1 low range and have a slip yok elim kit avalible and a 4:1 low range avalible aswell.

BTW you'll need to hack the floor and get custom drive shafts and speedo made.

Yeah I remember when Curtis did this and posted a pic.
It was very close indeed and the feeling was a short or medium input gear would do it (his had the long input gear).
The problem is it won't work for the 5sp (different size/spline potput shaft) or the 3.5 V6 auto's.
A good upgrade but Jeep parts aren't cheap over here though not like in the US.
I reckon it would cost pretty close to installing 2.85's but you would have the option of the 4:1 and a slip yoke eliminator kit.
