I would say 6000 would be enough but depends on how stuck u are and if u are pulling other vehicles out and space / amps that are available.

cheers

Id say the 9000, its the same size physically, 5kg heavier, has a longer line and can be put on a bigger vehicle if you want.

i'd back the 9, underworking it means you should get better line speeds and longer life.

I think that the extra pulling power of the 9000 would be offset by the fact that you're gonna struggle to pull out a badly bogged big truck anyway. The suzi just doesnt have enough weight to use all 9000lb pulling power.

It obviously depends on conditions but i've seen bigger 4by's getting winched towards the stuck vehicle rather than actually moving it before.

JMHO.

The 6000's a pretty quick motor - From memory there used to be like 1/2 horsepower difference. The current Warn 6000 is a 4.8hp but the 9000 is 4.6 Hp.

If you're going to run synthetic rope you'd want a highmoint or at least external brake.

depeens how stuck you plan on getting. In the Ateco winch challenges I have seen 8000lp Highmounts stalled. and that was on a zook running 34jt2's.
If you used the formula that poeple think is right of winch capacity of 1.5times the wieght of the car. Then the 6000 will be heaps. But for a similar price you could get a less stressed 8000 or 9000.

6000lbs should be heaps. if you require it to pull more just use a snatch block, by doubling it back you then have 12000lb worth of pulling power.

Cheers.

I have a hi mount, only because I have always wanted one :)
Go the 6000 low mount, it is the fastest 12v winch Warn makes, from 2000 pound right through to its rated 6000 pound capacity,
the only time a himount is quicker is with no load.
the 6000 is the ideal sized winch for your car.

... or just build a capable zook and drive it so you don't need to winch :D
I've only got a piss-ant 4500lb'r and never used it- driving some pretty nasty shiate too, however, the more modified the rig, the harder the terrain you drive... ;) 6000lb'r would be enough by far, reliable- and you can always slap on a 9000lb series wound motor onto it if u ever wish to pluk helpless 'yotas & pootrols from the miere

Droopy Pete speaks the truth. the 6000 is an ideal winch for a sierra. I have never much liked the 9000. I don't think they are warns best work. A 6000 with dyneema (sp?) is cool - nice and light and quick.

As to whether or not you need a winch, well, I tend to agree, I try and build cars that don't need a winch, and as such tend to think they are the last thing I would fit, but they sure help sometimes. I carry a hand winch in the G and have used it a few times, and I couldn't justify an electric winch on the G , but can justify 36" swampers and beadlocks.

Having said that, I always go driving with the club so there is always another car around to help out. If you drive by yourself, I think you might find it easier to justify.
