V8 fuel usage ??

Post by Ryan »

Hey all, ive got an EFI 5.0 letre in my GQ shorty, and im a bit confused by its fuel use although i think i found the problem, just want to see if someone can confirm it for me

i live at penrith and last night decided to go for a short cruise to stockton beach (2.5 hrs nth) hehe just a quick spin,
on the way up the fuel guage barely moved from the full mark, and ran beautifully up the freeway
however on the way back i used almost half a tank
i know the guage isnt faulty and after looking closer at things i noticed the air intake hose had gotten soft and kinked a bit, restricting air alot to the engine,

so does this mean it was getting good air on the way up hence not using much fuel, then struggling on the way back and chewing more juice?

ive fitted a RAMPOD to it for temporary so im hoping this will work cause V8 and fuel prices are not cheap lol

all help appreciated thanks :D

Sounds strange

Dont know about the air duct thing but mabey the arm on the fuel sender was stuck and while you were up at stoko you hit a bump and freed it up

How far do you normally drive before the fuel needle starts to move?

Short cruise up to stoko from penrith, geez you almost as bad as me with my cruise to bathurst from liverpool..... cause i was bored... ha ha ha

dunno really, its the first real long drive its had since the motor went in,, and the only real explanation i could come up with is that it was starving for air on the way home hence makin the engine work alot harder
cause up in the high rpm's it was starting to lag severly (the air duct was almost closing in on itself

i had a similar prob on my TB42 SWB on sat, te hose from snorkel to filter was also getting warm, and collapsing under throttle, it was run ning likke a dog and using juice, i replaced the hose with high temp rated stuff from pirtek, and it was running alot better, with more power,

how many k's you normally get out of a tank?
