Xtra cab swap.

Post by stuckwithlux »

I have a 89 model lux, single cab. just wondering if the older model( i think around 85) xtra cab will fit onto my chassis??? anyone with some advice or pics? much appreciate. cheers

p.s I'm not talking about the xtra cab with seats in the back, just the older model with a bit of space behind the seats.

It will drop straight on, the front six body mounts that hold the single cab and extra cab are the same positions. The only difference you might find is the front two mounts may be a different hieght of up to 15mm but this can easily be overcome by fitting a spacer on top of the monting rubber.

I think you will find that the body mounts right at the back will need to be moved as in the extra cab they sit right in the rear corner

Easy way is to find an extra cab and measure the body mounts then measure the body mounts on yours

I know the IFS extra cabs have the 3rd set of mounts some 300mm further back, am fairly sure the 85 extra shared the same mounts as the singles cab. Like Barney said best to measure first.
If you want I have some chassis diagrams I could email you that may help.

i've got an 87 extra cab on my 85 single cab chassis (both yn65) the front 4 mounts are the same, but the rear two had to be moved back about 300ish mm(really sinple job). i'm not sure about the height though cos its just sitting there not bolted down and has no lift blocks in the front.

hell steep
u could buy a cheap truck for that much like a 2wd extra cab and wreck it out and keep the cab, why do u want to go from the new style body to an old one why not put on a gen3 xtracab

coz i didn't wanna take up that much chassis. although it did cross my mind today at the wreckers! i just want somewhere to put gear without it getting trashed in a box or on the tray, it's still my daily!

off the subject here, how do you find the 35" with the 2.8 spaz?

are the 5.29's aftermarket?? sounds like a good idea, i was looking at an engine upgrade, either 1uz or v6 commodore. was going to do the whole thing at once, new body and motor
