Engine swap help

Post by bIg_ReD_bOiNs »

gday dihats-dudes,
a mate of mine has a feroza, i dunno what model or year or any of that but im finding out, its a good truck but when he bought it the guy who sold it to him did a shifty on him. he somehow managed to get a totally shagged engine passed by the racq inspection. so my mate had to shell out a disgraceful amount of bickies to get the bloody thing running.

and even now the motor is really gutless, so he wants to do an engine swap. only thing is he is pretty mechanically challenged so he has asked for my help. problem with that is im still learning about yotas, i know sweet FA about dihatsus. so i thought i should ask you guys (and or girls) what you though would be the way to go.

1.what sort of engine would you put in
2.where can i get one
3.would you go recon or new
4.how much are they worth
5.how hard is it to do the swap
6.whats the deal with getting that sorta thing engineered
7.anything else you would do while you got the car pulled apart ie, drivetrain etc.

i know it might be a bit hard without specifics of the car but any help would be appreciated. ill try and get the specs of him to day and post them tonight.

ps. he also wants to do up the interior a bit, any one know where you can get a good deal on carpet in brisse?

I'm re-doing the interior panels of my roza at the mo...will be done soon and post pics...am refitting with ply covered with 1.5mm alloy checker plate... better than any carpet you'll find...in my opinion ;)

I used a 1996 Toyota Hilux 2.7L
2.where can i get one
I found mine on Pirate BBS and picked it up 70 miles away. You can try the salvage yards and BBS for sale sections.
3.would you go recon or new
Mine had 140,000 miles on it. I put in a new timing chains kit. It runs like a clock and I should get another 150,000 miles easily.
4.how much are they worth
I paid $1,200.00 for the engine, clutch and W59 bell housing, engine harness, partial body harness, fuse box, power steering lines, engine mounts, complete air intake, of course starter, alternator, misc. stuff.
5.how hard is it to do the swap
It was a pain in the arse :D
6.whats the deal with getting that sorta thing engineered
I don't know about over in Oz. All I had to do was to get an Engine Change Verification from the state.
7.anything else you would do while you got the car pulled apart ie, drivetrain etc.
I already had Toyota axles. I swapped the transmission to a `91 4Runner (Surf), dual transfer cases and custom drive shafts.
