The length of the straight 6 is giving me oil problems when climbing steep inclines and I think the pickup is suckin some air, so I need to modify the sump.
Anyone seen any good designs for sump baffles / trap doors for a 4wd. Most of the designs I've seen are for race cars with short term protection for hard cornering and braking. I don't want to go to dry sump as the cost is stupid and my supra is in the hole because its cheap !!
I have seen a really cool trick that serves a couple of purposes. What they did was add a small tank ( vented up high with a filler, similar to an auto dipstick and tube) this tank held 5 or 6 extra litres of oil and is mounted at the same level as the bottom of your sump but as far forward as possible (so as to keep the same original oil level). A 3/4" transfer line went from bottom back of tank to sump base. So when you climb the xtra 5ltrs of oil tops up the sump keeping plenty of oil around the p/up ( still helps to have a baffle of some sort), and when you flatten out it refills the tank. Plus the xtra oil certainly helps in cooling a little.
Just an idea!! i have tried it on machinery before and it works sweet...

Might extend the sump front and section off part of it with the 3/4 tube.
