Altinator up grades which vehicle?
Altinator up grades which vehicle?
Guys got a 1990 sierra with the original 1.3 now with spot lights instead of head lights which are 100 watters a cb running 2 rock lights heater fan running the car was left idleing at night and had also been turned off quite a few times later in the evening the battery was flat am now wondering is there a zuk altinator of some modle that i can replace my original one with that has a higher output and is easy to fit hopefully will just bolt in or is it a retro fit out of some other vehicle with a high out put altinator
I dont know how easy it is going to be but I have a 85amp model out of a Commo V6 that I am going to chuck into Debbies zook.
Will have to make brackets and swap pulleys but cant see it being to much of a drama and replacements if it dies are a dime a dozen at wreckers.

don't try to use one from a donor vehicle. it will be harder to replace later if you need to. go to the local auto electrician and get a bosch 85 Amp alternator. you use the same mounting plate and bracket but on the mounting plate you drill out the thread where the two bolts go in (to hold the alt.) and just use one bolt all the way through.
if you do go bush and kill the alternator you will always be able to pick up a spare part.
if you have any problems then pm me and i will take some pics for you.
this runs my spotties dual battery set up and a few other bits and peices

I used one out of a falcon. They are a bosch alternator. I was looking for one off an EL which is 105A i think. However the wrecker i went to only had ones off an EB which are 85A, and was $50. They bolt up perfectly. There are only a couple of small mods you have to do. On the bottom brackets you there is a small collar that you have to shave a couple of mill off. You then pull the pulley off the EB/EL and you will have to drill your pulley off the zook alternator out to a 17 or 18mm hole. Can't quite remember. Leave the spacer behind the pulley on the EB alt, put the seirra pulley on do the nut up and you're finished. There are no keys or anything tricky like that.
I would also get the plug that connects to the reg off the falcon as the colours are the same for the zook making it a breeze to wire up.
The adjusting bracket at the top also has to be slotted out a little more to give a bit more adjustment. You will also need a slightly longer fan belt. Hope I could help.
Cheers,
Lindsay

I dont know what its like around your way but around here it is cheaper to buy a reconditioned alternator from an Auto Electrician than buy a clapped out one from a wrecker.
Some of the Hyundai alternators are up to 150amps which will just about drive a Suzuki.
An auto electrician will also be able to advise which will fit as well as calculating your total current use and therefore requirements.
Cheers

Running 130 watt headlights, 100 watt driving lights, 400watt amp, heater fan etc I did not have issues with the stock alt ..

ok standard is only 35amp
i have a rodeo 75 amp one... takes sfa work to put on.
plugs are the same
u need to mod the bracket tho.
bend where the alti bolts in out a bit (becasue it is bigger)
and the mounting holes, i just turnd in to 2 slots, so basicly put bolts in losely (sp) and ajusted to where you want, do up bolts, bend top arm thingi, hey presto!
im running 6X driving lights, 800w amp, big sterio, uhf, random other crap.
my lights alone draw 35amps!!!!!!!
and a genral gauge is...
55w globe draws 4.5 amps. so round of to 5 with wiring and relay etc..
and 100w draws 10!
easy as that.
im not shore of what motor takes to run etc.. but i know a beet out of my sub can draw up to 15-20amps in one "doof"

so are the mounting points the same between the sierra 1.3 and the vit 1.6???
Possumhunter who occasionally drops in upgraded his old Vit one to a Commodore alternator quite easily from memory.
Does the EFI 1.6ltr have a higher output than the carby 1.6ltr?
