whole diff assembly or just diff centre?

Since you said it is a 30 spline pinion, I assume you are looking to swap only the centre. I assume you also have a full floater axle since semi floaters will not accept limited slips or factory lockers.

If you are looking to bolt a differential centre in without replacing anything, then these would fit:

1981-84 60 series
1978-80 55 series
1978-84 45 series (duhh)

If you don't mind changing or redrilling the pinion flange to match your driveshafts, these would also fit:

1985-90 60 series (including the 61 and 62)
1985-99 leaf sprung 70 series (also 73,74,75 - non Bundy)
1990-97 rear 80 series (minor difference in ratio, 4.10 vs. 4.11)

cool, so they are all the same size ( 9" ) as the 40 diff just have different Drive shaft to pinion flange bolt spacings... ? ?

Yes. If your FJ40 is 1978-1984. The flange bolt pattern changed in 1985 but as the flange is round, you can redrill it to suit.
