Howdy guys,
I am just about to replace the coil in my 1991 3.9 Hotwire rangie, just a quick quesiton if I buy a generic Bosch coil like a GT40 or whatever they are do I need to run a ballast resistor like I did on my old rangie or is that
all un-necessary.
Another question is who knows the bosch number off the coil - mine has absolutely no info on it.
Thanks
Tom

1991 RRC Coil questions

Be careful on this. The Genuine coil is apparently very unusual and you will blow the ignition amplifier if you fit an unsuitable coil.
I spoke to Bob Tait at Bosch some time ago about this and Bosch has sold all of their stock to someone. Give him a call for advice on Bosch's national number.

Hmmm that could expain a "few things" I thougth that might be the case, I was chasing a miss in the LPG setup on the car about 3 months ago and fitter a standard bosch coil - it ran alright for a while and then all of a sudden the LPG stopped working completely the other day, I might be well on my way to toasting the ig amplifier - I still have the old coil so I might throw it on and then talk to bosch about getting a suitable one.Philip A wrote:Be careful on this.
