To Hot
Ok,
I have fixed all the probs I had with my engine on the GQ (TD42 with shwitzer running 10psi) running a liitle to hot for my liking, and for the better part it now runs aroung 1/4 on the guage then up to around 1/2 on a really long hill climb on the highway.
now it used to un quite hot on the sand, but it ran hotter all the time, now after heading up to stockton on saturday I noticed it was back to runnings way to hot....sand i know, but the GU takes it ok standard factory turbo with a safari kit
the qestion is, anone elso get real hot on the sand and would an intercooloer prolly air to water when I do the ute chop help the engine run cooler?
aslo I know somewhere its being talked about, so if anyone can find the link to the last discussing about air to water intercoolers please post it up
could I addapt the A/C heat exchanger to run as a rad for the intercooler?

Moved it for you

id say you could probably use the A/C condenser, as long as you can connect it up.... i cant see y not, its just a condenser...
with regards to hot on sand, my V8 over heats like an absolute asshole on the sand.... and its cause its working waaaay to hard trying to drive the swampers, im sure on 33 mtrs it would drive the sand fine....
cant be much help on the turbo side of things though...

You have a large diameter tyre and its rolling charactistics should be easier on sand not more difficult for the engine, added to the actual diameter is the tread width and at 13.5" again it should be less prone to "sinking" into the sand and again should have better rolling charactistics over a narrower tyre choice such as the 31X10 duelers
The only logical thing which can be causing your problem of over heating is either....
A/ poor engine cooling system
B/ the tyre isnt aired down enough or
C/ the most likely issue which is the aggressive tread pattern of the swamper.
I tend to think it would be the tread patern more over a lack of airing down, If you drive sand that often then perhaps a 2nd set of worn out swampers or even a set that has had the lugs cut back so as to remove the aggresive nature might just solve your overheating issue.

A friend of mine used the a/c condensor as his intercooler on a supercharged petrol, it worked bloody awesome. He says that it was better than his PWR custom water to air he is running now.
On a 40 degree day we climbed a long steep hill in the high country, all of our cars were overheating except his. We popped the bonnet and he still had frost on the intercooler

so your saying I could actually use the condensor AS the intercooler as opposed to using it as a radiator for an air to water? as I am getting rid of the A/C to use the comp for air I hav is spare and want to move it out of the way of the radiator for better air flow. I would rear mount the rad with a big thermo and keep the condensore up front of this is the caseTUFFRANGIE wrote:A friend of mine used the a/c condensor as his intercooler on a supercharged petrol, it worked bloody awesome. LETS GO BRONCOS
It's strange that people give advice to other people without looking into the question and doing the reseach to answer the questions.
The first question was: - Does anyone also get real hot on the sand?
The answer to that would be yes, driving though sand (if soft) is hard work. Think as it as driving up a continuos climb take your foot off the go peddle you stop.
The second question was: - Would an intercooler probably air to water when I do the Ute chop help the engine run cooler?
Yes anything that cools the inlet charge will help in decreasing the rate a motor builds-up heat. The side bonus is the cooler the inlet charge the more power the motor generates.
The third question was: - Could I adapt the A/C heat exchanger to run as a rad for the intercooler?
It’s been tried before and it is not that efficient, the flow is too restrictive. As your not going to run a A/C you can get a good size rad made up to fit in its place. If I remember I will find out what core mine was made from and post it as well as some pic's of it installed.

thanks, maybe a rad of a small 4 cyl car, charade etc or to big? I am thinking the PWR canister, prolly put the engine rad up back and the small intercooler rad up front so there is plenty of room to get a high mount mounted right in as far as I can.GutSquisher Media wrote:It's strange that people give advice to other people without looking into the question and doing the reseach to answer the questions.

the prob is every time I think about it I want to do more...thinking tube the rear with coilocers with a veiw to go rear steer now

How do you get frost on the intercooler??? or do you mean he used the evaperator? as with refridgeration the condensor is hot, evaperator cold??TUFFRANGIE wrote:A friend of mine used the a/c condensor as his intercooler on a supercharged petrol, it worked bloody awesome.
