Using Oil

Post by nicbeer »

Hey

My sierra seems to be blowing some oil. Blue smoke.

Whats the best way to stop it doing that aside from a new motor.

Oil/filter and plugs were not long done. Leads about 2yrs ago (found a set on ebay for 25 if that is good price). Hd gasket is i think not too good, would this cause oil usage?

going to look at the timing make sure that is ok.

cheers

Nic

rings. Mine uses a fair bit of oil but im gonna redo the bottom end when i completely stuff my clutch and do it all in one go...eventually.

Guess you could always try using a thicker oil or those stop smoke additives dont know how affective they are but probably worth a try

TO NICBEER AND BAZOOKED :x WHAT THE F*** :x

Nic, to get about four years out of a service motor is pretty good dont you think. As for it being a lemon, did you ever take it back, NO
Did you get it professionally serviced, NO
Did you call in and talk to the guy who built it, NO
Did you ring its neck doing jumps in the dunes at Lancilin, YES
Did you go on a national forum and slag off a company that
prides itself on honouring its product as far as is
practicable, YES

Bazooked, I would have thought better of you.
Did SuziWest pull the head off twice and put in a new set of rings
at no cost to you, even thou they didnt fit the motor,YES
Did you drop in out of the blue and ask to use the workshop
for your new project, without buying any product or supplying
beer, and proceed to slag off said workshop with in 48hrs, YES

For anyone else, SuziWest has a long history of happy customers, we may not be the cheapest, but our commitment to our product is second to none, and we welcome anyone
It's the one on the right, Dammit !!!

Hey,
:? Not bashing but there has been issues with this one and suziwest.

Bought one motor. lasted 1000k then cam broke down and filled engine with metal fillings. My time and money to bring it back and inconvenience.
second motor after fitted, carby was played with rear main leaked.
Took back and rear main was supposably changed but after two weeks and only driving the thing to work and back was leaking again. Took to a mate and did the seal there ourselves and could not be farked driving to midland again to farked around. Has not leaked since. The motor has done about 40000k as per the odo.
I did not know who built it except suziwest did it.
Serviced yes. a mate mechanic at a garage did the servicing on it then.
Jumps: that was on the old motor as per the image on left.
I did not slag them but to say mine was a lemon. I know of a couple people that are having no issues with there's.

I have no objections with suziwest doing the work, just at that time i wish a bit more time was taken with doing the work.

:?: Back to the orig question. do those additives work? or is it better to take the head off and chuck some rings in? can this be done whilst motor is still in there? Its not noticeable at idle much just around 4000rpm a film of blue smoke.
cheers

badooky i should of made my post a bit clearer, got my donk back when there was different staff, and yes i did take it back 3 times, originally the first head gasket leaked , the second had a problem aswell, and the 3rd time motor was blowin blue smoke because the bores were glazed up so they changed the rings, the motor has never performed like it should ave compared to other 1.6s that i no off, eg aliens.ps i didnt slag anyone of publically, and the post mentioned was just bad timing brian is a top bloke, but there is alot to be said about previous employes as you are well aware.
