12V air compressors

Has anyone tried out the Bushranger compressors, particularly the $249 Pro Air?

Is there any other brand in this price range (preferably below $300) worth looking at, or am I better to spend the extra $$$ and buy something a bit better?

I'm looking something a lot more capable for inflating the 4WD tyres than my current cheapy compressor, plus something that will last.

I have never been a huge fan of electric compressors. My mate uses a Falcon compressor (oil fillable) and this thing is a weapon! On a recent run to Stockton we had 3 vehicles in our fleet, GQ Patrol 33's, Suzuki Sierra 33's and a feroza std. We all run extremely low pressures and we had all 3 re-inflated by the time one yuppie in his Discovery had only inflated 3 tires. The setup uses the falcon compressor and has a large reciever and lines to the front and rear of the truck, this is alsio used to inflate the trailer ramps for his buggy. and keep em up whilst onroad.

Yep, go for the Air Con compressor. You cant beat them,and they can be made up real cheap.

The Bushranger compresor you have mentioned is the one to get. Pushes out heaps more air than ARB, big red and all the rest plus it is cheaper and still has a 4 year waranty. When my Big Red sh!ts itself i will get one.

If you can be bothered the aircon compresor is better though.

just thinking about that.doesnt the air con gas lubricate the compressor?

im an A/C Apprentice, its not the gas that lubricates, its actually the oil in the sump of the pump, when you have an automotive A/C pump with a seperate sump, the oil and gas are seperate, put most conventional A/C pumps dont have a seperate sump, so the oil gets cought with the flow of the gas and gets pumped around the system.

yes, but some people put an air tool oiler at the input side of the compressor, than an air-oil seperator on the output side.

u can get a york compressor that has its own sump setup for lubrication, or some people tap a grease nipple into the top of the compressor and give it a few pumps everynow and then.

So with the endless air where does the grease go?
I mean if oil ends up pumping through with the air then wouldnt the grease end up in your air lines eventually too?
or am I missing something?

So is the grease nipple the only mod that endless air do to their compressors?

Thanks for all the replies. The aircon compressor would be good, but there isn't much space left in the engine bay, and I'd like something I can carry in my other other vehicles too.

The $249 Bushranger sounds like it will suit perfectly.

err, have a GOOD look at the $249 bushranger pro air then go to supercheap and have a look at their $149 compressor ($99 on special every couple of months) - I reckon they look same enough to be the same compressor with different stickers on. The Bushranger Max Air is a different kettle of fish and if you can stretch your budget a little these are the go, think they're around $450? similar pump up rate for more dollars is the twin tongue but they're pretty spendy. I reckon if you're going to spend $249 wait for the supercheap special (repco does the same special from time to time) and get 2, even if they're only half the speed of a $300 compressor you're still a hundred bucks ahead.

all that said, the air cond compressor really is the go.

I may have found the Max Air Bushranger for $292! (RRP $390) Just have to wait for more stocks to arrive late next week. The same place has the Pro Air for $187.

What is the going street price for them? Previously I was quoted $370 for the Max.
