Hi Frank
Well i am happy the frost plug is still where it should be so its only the front seal whick is leaking. Now you told me that
"5sp t/case breathes through the selector boot (there is a small hole in the rubber)" so where is it and can it get blocked?
how do check and fix?
Thanks heaps
Rhys

Assuming the GenIIs are like the GenIs... You have what amounts to three boots. One is the "finished" one you see everyday when shifting. Under that is another that serves to keep the outside world underneath from coming up into your cabin. Then there is a third under that which keeps the outside from getting into the tcase. It's on that last boot where the hole is for breathing.
I plugged mine in three steps. First I simply put a little patch like for a bike tube. Then I covered the boot in multiple coats of a product here (US) called Seal-All. It's like contact cement, and is very oil and gas resistent. Then I wrapped all of that with successive strips of self-sealing electical tape.
Of course you'll need to put a breather in the tcase now. I never thought about trying to fit a hose into the hole. You would have to make the hole bigger. An interesting idea...

Hey muttis.... The breather's deffinately where i said mate. Had down time at work today and decided to pull the console out and check it. Once the console has been removed, take the next cover/boot off (6 10mm bolts) and you will expose the top of the transfer case. Like i said there was a small rubber tube coming out of the selector boot which wen't into a sealed pipe which vents to air furthar up.
Blew air into mine and all seemed ok. My Slip yolk is definately leaking internally!!!

Hudson the NJ models had signifigant changes with the front diff & t/case breathers. The front diff had a solid line running high up into the engine bay and the t/case has the breather tube you describe. Earlier models did not thats why Mutttis can't see it.
His model has only a small hole in the rubber boots around the gear stick & t/case levers.
