V8 Hilux

Post by shagginwagon »

I have an '82 hiliux with a 253 and the standard radiator doesnt keep the motor cool. Just wanted to know what my best options are for fitting a radiator good enough to do the job

Is it an engine fan? Or running thermo's?

Dunno if it's the same. But my 4Runner radiator manages to keep cool my quad cam 1UZ V8. Thats running a 16" thermo pushing air in....

JD is keeping his 5 litre HO Ford using the standard Hilux diesel radiator and a 11 blade viscous coupled fan
I use the same system on all the V6 conversions I do

I've got 2 small thermo's bullbar side. there is only about an inch between the standard radiator and water pump pully.

I should have said that too, yeah my 16" thermo is on the outside pushing air in.

Though, not sure how similar things are around there, mines a Gen2 4Runner.

hey i had the same porblem, when i was told to put a engine driven fan on i only had one inch but i found a solution. go to auto pro and get ureself a flex fan there about $60 and are metalic. they bolt straight onto the waterpump pulley and fit in this area as there offset enables them to fit. give that ago and use ure hilux diesel fan shroud.

this is good to start with but once you start off roadinn a lot, you put more strain on your engne, and this results in engine flex, causing SHARP METAL BLADES to rip into radiator... leaving yuo stranded in middle o no where....

thermos are he go, davies craig on a diesle lux radiator.... i have twin 10" thermos on mine, and have no dramas with over heating...

just my 2c worth

cheers

Thanx heaps people for the input, I'll take those things on board, gotta do something. So with the right cooling set up, do you's think that the standard hilux radiator is capable of keeping the V8 cool enough
