2uzfe in 80 series
I have found a place selling 2uzfe's from 100 series landcruisers for under $4000. Would this be an easy conversion compared to a holden/gen3 conversion for an 80 series.
Does anyone make a kit for this?

If you want bolt in...then go with the Marks kit and a 304 holdon donk...The 1uzfe is a quad cam version of the 2uzfe single cam...thesame block....alot cheaper...maybe half price including everything to make it run....then you have 210kw....all the v8 100 series stuff bolts onto it like 5 speed, flywheel, etc etc.

Dont know that there would be many VVTI 1uzfe engines in Australia, if there was they would be way more than a 2uzfe.
I was looking at the genIII option but it would seem that there are WAY to many people out there complaining about the genIII's reliability. Also from what I have heard, Holden are doing everything they can to keep it quiet as well.
I think the 5ltr Holden option may be the best option.

I think that's what is making genIII cheaper. Good time to buy one. They are cheap to get bits for, unlike 1uz.
do not go a Gen 3 i have a mate with 1 in a GU ute and my 355 Holden cast iron (5L Strocker) kick his arse ever where from more torque and pulling power to straight out speed
if your looking at doing a holden conversion i have all the bits from the bolting to the motor to a 5 Speed in a 80 for sale. i am doing a auto conversion now as i am in the auto game.

was the gen3 running on more than 4 cylinders?
Re: 2uzfe in 80 series
Were can you get the 2uz-fe engine for under $4000, chasing one myself and the 2uz-fe is a quad cam engine same as the 1uz-fe.

Re: 2uzfe in 80 series
I have a LX470 and it fairly hammers. I have another that I have sold the engine and gearbox as a full package to someone doing the same conversion as you. It should move along exceptionally well given the big weight reduction over the LX470.
As an aside, the auto gearbox behind the V8 is the final incarnation of the A442F and has vastly superior shifting, smoothness and firmness since it uses the ecu to control the line pressure (rather than a kick down cable). The box is a bolt in affair in an 80 auto.
I would not dream of comparing the engine to a 308.

I had a gen 3 in a gu and it flew 320bhp. Its ok to say your 355 (stroked 5L) beats in power and torque, because maybe it does but... Your talking about a stock as a rock go forever with hadly any stress vs 1 thats running at its limit. I know what I would pick and did.davo250 wrote:do not go a Gen 3 i have a mate with 1 in a GU ute and my 355 Holden cast iron (5L Strocker) kick his arse ever where from more torque and pulling power to straight out speed

2uz has 2 valves cast heads.....1uz has 4 valves twin cams and alloy heads. 2uz is torque, 1uz is revs and power

both stock engines i was taking about.
don't get me wrong i am in the process of putting in a L98 Stroker in my landcruiser now. min 600HP i have been told with the parts that are going in. but will be full race prep to suit Long Course Races

Re: 2uzfe in 80 series
The 2UZ-FE is a 32 valve engine with alloy heads just like the 1UZ. It has a cast iron block rather than alloy in the 1UZ. The difference between the two is mainly the factory cam timing to make it a fairly torquey motor - peak torque however is still at ~ 3400rpm, but at 2000rpm it probably has 90% of it.dow50r wrote:2uz has 2 valves cast heads.....1uz has 4 valves twin cams and alloy heads. 2uz is torque, 1uz is revs and power

I stand corrected, cast block AND 32 valves it is...dont know why i thought it was a 16 valver.

Re: 2uzfe in 80 series
you can buy the bolt up parts from an early 100 98-02 with the 4speed auto(a442f), im bolting a 1uz to an 80 4speed (a440) using the bellhousing ordered from toyota @ $460, torque conver is $1150. engine mounts and firewall are going to be the hardest bits if you would call that hard
1uzed and no home for it
Re: 2uzfe in 80 series
Anyone looking at doing this conversion I have just done a early 2uz (4spd auto, pre 02 lx470) plug and play wiring harness, as long as your 80 was originally a fuel injected motor. Just something that will make it alot easier for you.

Actually Steve, I am fairly sure that the conversion you are referring too was for the new owner of my old engine (Reegan)...

Re: 2uzfe in 80 series
And I would really reccomend using the complete engine and box that came with the 2UZFE rather than mixing and matching bits - unless you can save a ton of money. The low end torque of the 2UZFE is worth the slightly lower top end of the 1UZ in my opinion. In a Hilux a 1UZ would be awesome, but I would expect it to feel quite sluggish in a heavy 80 series.... Certainly would make all the right noises though!

Re: 2uzfe in 80 series
If u are looking for facts about 1,2,3UZ's then I would have a browse thru http://www.lextreme.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Alot more potential in these engines then people realise and parts are not expensive or hard to source at all if u know wat to look for. Alot of other toyota motors share service and replacement engine parts, just hav to be clever and take note of serial numbers.

Waste of time and money. 4 grand buys a supercharger kit for the 1fz, and you'll be getting alot more than the piddly 20kw the 2uz makes over the 1fz.
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.

There is nothing at all wrong with the LS1 series engines. The very early engines had some clearance issues and oil usage which was fixed under warranty and only affected a few engines. The engines will see over 500'000k's with decent servicing and over 500hp with minor mods, over 1500hp if you want to get serious. There is nothing the 5L has that is better apart from maybe the note (due to firing order). I'm sure someone will trot out the "low down torque" gem soon. Of course if you knew either engine and overlay the dyno sheets you would see the GenIII has more power and torque everywhere in the rev range but MUCH more up top so it feels less down low.
Re: 2uzfe in 80 series
Yep thats exactly right. I got my gen3 rebuilt before throwing it in the GU. The engine shop said it was just bad clearance issues from holden is why they sucked oil. Mine was absolutely fine and didnt waste a drop after rebuild. Just to give you some idea's and comparasons.
Here is the very first dyno run after engine was in and still tight. It easily made 320bhp after it was run in, air flow fixed and the fuel leaned out a bit.
Standard patrol (diesel) running gear (Patrol 5 speed, 4.1 diff gears and 33 bfg allterains.
Hope this helps

it might only be 20kw. But my old mans v8 100 leaves my brothers 1fz 80 for dead both autos, oldmate wrote:g35me wrote:I have found a place selling 2uzfe's from 100 series landcruisers for under $4000. Would this be an easy conversion compared to a holden/gen3 conversion for an 80 series.

or you could turbo the 1fz like I did to mine for some good power gain
